The role of an RPR

What is an RPR?

As an Relevant Person Representative, you will ensure the rights of people who are deprived of their liberty under the Mental Capacity Act in care homes and hospitals are upheld, their voices heard, and their feelings represented.

The responsibilities are as follows:

  • To visit clients in their care home or hospital setting and talk (as far as is possible) to them to find out their views and wishes regarding their placement and care, and (if required) to call the placement for regular updates
  • To make sure clients are safe, well cared for, and that their rights are being upheld
  • To meet with care home/hospital staff and ensure any conditions attached to their unique situation are being adhered to
  • To read client files and check their care plans are being followed
  • To enter records of your visits onto our database
  • To report back to the lead advocate if there are any problems, or concerns (for instance, if the client is expressing unhappiness with their placement or living arrangement)

What we require

What we require from you:

  • To be literate, computer literate (Microsoft Office), and be able to write and upload basic reports
  • An objective, sensitive and non-judgemental approach with respect for confidentiality
  • To be able to communicate effectively with other professionals such as social care workers and care providers
  • The ability to use creative methods of communication with people who lack capacity to ensure you represent their views, wishes and feelings, or identifying their preferences by reviewing their files, or talking to those that know them if you are not able to obtain their views directly

The nice-to-haves:

  • An understanding of the health and social care sector, and the Mental Capacity Act
  • A clean driving license, access to your own car, and car insurance for business use

What we offer:

  • Competitive Pay
  • Ongoing paid remote training, supervision, and support from our amazing team
  • Paid team meetings held remotely via Zoom
  • An immediate start, or as soon as you can begin working with us
  • A flexible, part-time role on a 5-10-hours per week basis, so you can manage your appointments to fit in with your other work and life commitments
  • Full training in becoming an RPR

Do you love caring for, and standing up for the rights of vulnerable adults?

Do you consider yourself an empathetic people-person?

Do you already work in the social care sector, or are you someone who has a keen interest in health, social care and caring for others?

If so, Libra are actively recruiting Relevant Person’s Representatives (RPRs) and would love to hear from you. Please get in touch.

To be considered, please email us a copy of your CV with a covering letter outlining your skills, experience, and why you feel you would make a fantastic RPR to admin@librapartnership.com (CVs without a covering letter will not be read).

Please note: as we work with RPRs all over the UK, first interviews will be held via Skype or Zoom, and due to the sensitive nature of our work, a full DBS check and references will be required before you begin working with us.

We look forward to hearing from you!
